Twenty years ago, releasing two new books wasn’t on my radar, but in a way maybe it was. I was still grieving the unexpected loss of my mom and simply trying to get through the day with two small children. Yet small steps of faith, a desire to help others, and stepping out of my comfort zone led me here on my journey to brain health.
After a crash course in how not to handle someone with short term memory loss with my Mom’s sudden loss of her short term memory, I wished for a better way to help her. During the time of Mom’s illness, I often felt overwhelmed and called on God’s help. He was always there when I needed Him and carried me through her illness, death, and the season after when I felt adrift without a rudder. Following her death, I envisioned doing something to help those with memory loss, but didn’t know how. But God did.
Journey to Brain Health
Recently I was reading through some journal entries from that time. I saw God at work in my words but also between the lines. He was leading me to understand my desire to help other families like ours by writing and/or giving back. When Mom suddenly lost her short-term memory due to a rare inflammatory disease and vascular dementia, there weren’t many specific resources to help us. After her death, I kept asking God to lead me. Following Him in small steps of faith eventually led me to a friend who shared about a memory group her husband was attending. She told me I should start a similar group in our community. I remember wondering why she’d say that, yet less than a year later, that’s just what I did with MemoryMinders.
My journey to brain health started with Mom’s memory loss, continued by educating myself and countless others through MemoryMinders, and now with Brain Boosters Faith Editions books! God always knew this was part of His plan for me so including faith-based encouragement with the brain education and mental fitness puzzles I wrote while following God feels like completing a circle. Yet our journeys aren’t over yet.
Small Steps on the Journey
Wellness is a journey; one completed with many small steps. We aren’t simply healthy or well once; it’s a continuum. Brain health is just part of our overall wellness, in soul, mind, and body. We often think of brain and memory wellness as only physical, but I believe our soul plays a large part in our wellness. That’s why there are two different editions of Brain Boosters. Both have unique brain and memory education and 145+ original mental fitness puzzles plus Biblical encouragement. But they each have a different theme.
Brain Boosters Soul, Mind, and Body Edition explores the theme of wellness in soul, mind, and body and how they interact with each other creating overall wellness. Brain Boosters Faith and Memory Edition explores memory education in more detail. Both are perfect for adults of any age with two difficulty levels of puzzles to reinforce the education. Each will navigate and inspire your journey to brain health with encouraging, actionable steps.
